Biodynamic

Biodynamic agriculture goes a step further than organic agriculture. This includes the following:

  • Soil fertility is maintained naturally through the use of planned crop rotation, organic fertilisers and herb preparations.
  • Cattle feed is of biodynamic origin and mostly (minimum 80%) grown at the farm in question.
  • The farm business is run as an enclosed ecological system whenever possible.
  • Physical interventions on the animals (including dehorning) are not acceptable.

The following specific extra requirements apply to biodynamic dairy products:

  • milk must not be homogenised
  • only extracts, not aromas, can be added as flavourings
  • the addition of lysozyme to cheese is not acceptable.
