Biodynamic
Biodynamic agriculture goes a step further than organic agriculture. This includes the following:
- Soil fertility is maintained naturally through the use of planned crop rotation, organic fertilisers and herb preparations.
- Cattle feed is of biodynamic origin and mostly (minimum 80%) grown at the farm in question.
- The farm business is run as an enclosed ecological system whenever possible.
- Physical interventions on the animals (including dehorning) are not acceptable.
The following specific extra requirements apply to biodynamic dairy products:
- milk must not be homogenised
- only extracts, not aromas, can be added as flavourings
- the addition of lysozyme to cheese is not acceptable.
